Each year Livingstone International University holds a Cultural Gala where the students celebrate their tribal backgrounds and share dancing, drama and food. This is our sponsored student Joyce acting the part of a mother-in-law! She is wearing a traditional gomesi – the traditional dress for Bugandan and Basogan women. Milton has sent further photo’s of the fields and gardens around Kyemula showing that crops are growing well – here the maize has been interplanted with beans

One of our vital projects is supplying menstrual cups to ensure that girls are able to attend school regularly and feel confident during their periods, so we were delighted that the donation from the Interact Club at Croesyceiliog School enabled us to buy more – which were distributed at the health clinic this term. We were also pleased to be able to enhance the health clinic by having a visit from Good News Productions International (GNPI) who showed the older children a vid

With schools finally allowed to reopen Milton was able to order foodstuffs and firewood to be delivered. Thanks to everyone who was able to Gift Aid their donations – we have received £7,300 this year. Usually, we hold most of the Gift Aid in reserve for unexpected expenditure and crises but this year we will be spending a proportion of it on an addition to the Community Home in Kyemula. . Milton says that the current provision is overcrowded and had asked if we could consi

February Newsletter 2026
The Holiday Lunch Club continues to support the children most at risk in Kyemula providing a nutritious meal and an opportunity to make sure the children are ok. Oh, yes and importantly, they have some fun too! Whilst the internet shut down in Uganda for the General Election was not as prolonged as we feared it might be, the election has significantly interrupted life for everyone. LIU did not reopen until after the voting had taken place to allow the students to vote in the

This is the final component of the phonics store in the recently completed building at Jackie School. It seems shelves are not a regular part of life in Mbale and we were unable to find an ‘off the shelf’ solution to the storage of the carefully crafted materials! However, the local carpenter who makes the school desks was able to make these splendid units which were delivered at the end of term. Milton’s son, Willy, who teaches at Jackie School has taken on the role of run

December Newsletter
The Ugandan general elections in January have disrupted Christmas because the schools had to close a week earlier than anticipated and gatherings of any kind needed to cease because they could be taken over as opportunities to canvas for votes – plus the internet will be closed for a month from mid-December. However Milton was able to ensure all the Jackie School celebrations took place before the restrictions were put in place and all the children were very happy to receive

It’s lovely to see the classrooms looking so bright and the phonics materials displayed to encourage learning. Diana was also able to update us on the findings from the most recent health clinic. 490 children received a worming treatment and 35 treatment for malaria. Treatment not only helps those affected but also reduces transferability – similarly whilst overall fungal infections, ringworm and skin infections had reduced last term, a number of new pupils had reported with
