One of our vital projects is supplying menstrual cups to ensure that girls are able to attend school regularly and feel confident during their periods, so we were delighted that the donation from the Interact Club at Croesyceiliog School enabled us to buy more – which were distributed at the health clinic this term.
We were also pleased to be able to enhance the health clinic by having a visit from Good News Productions International (GNPI) who showed the older children a video and led a discussion about reproductive health, adolescence, and choices
It’s a very novel experience for them to see a video and they clearly found the experience engrossing. We are very keen to build on this new relationship and hope to repeat it next year as these are important issues for the children to think about as they grow up.
A big thank you to the Pilates Fit group from Portishead who undertook a challenge to do 20 press-ups for 20 days in February and raised an impressive £360 for 3H. An excellent start for our fundraising challenge which will launch after Easter – led by Terri and Pritti - who will be sharing more details via social media and email in due course. We are aiming to buy new shoes for all the children in Jackie School to keep them safe from jiggers and the injuries which come from going barefoot. There are lots of different ways to take part which we hope will appeal widely – it’s a while since we last did a challenge so it would be fantastic to exceed our expectations as we did last time!
All five of our sponsored students at Livingstone International University took part in the ‘Melodies’ concert on 7th March – they are left to right, Peace, Esther, Joyce, Sarah and Godiva. Peace, Esther and Sarah will all graduate this summer and we will be taking on another student for the next academic year. The full cost of sponsoring a student is £1500 per year but we also welcome part-sponsorships at £30 per month. Email 3huganda@gmail.com for more information.
The P7 pupils at Jackie School have been sitting their Pre-Primary-Leaving -Exam tests to decide whether they are ready for PLE later in the year. To give them space they are in the church but personally I wouldn’t like the seating position for 2 hours or more.
Milton sent these photos of cassava and maize growing – he says, ‘See the gardens now in Kyemula, the ones who planted during the early February rains are seeing very fast growth, but most are still preparing fields for planting.
