As part of their courses, students at LIU are required to set up and attend an internship with a local business or company.

Sarah - Horizon Company - June 2025

My internship is at Horizon Company which is located in Soroti City and founded by Mr Emunyu Silas. The owner is also an IT officer in Serere District Local Government, so sometimes we travelled for field work activities.

During my internship I learned about printer and computer maintenance:

The supervisor and I opened the printer to check for the causes of faded print or vertical lines running through the document etc.

We also opened the computer case to explore more about the different components and what could have caused it to stop working.

I also experienced using PDM software (Parish Development Model) to assist my supervisor with data entry.

I have learned many things in the field and I know I will learn more. Some of the key things I have learned are:

  • How to disassemble and reassemble the printer.

  • How to refill printer toner.

  • Common issues that can cause the printer to fail.

  • How PDMIS software works.

Thank you so much for being supportive during my education journey.

Esther - Bugisu Co-operative Union - June 2025

I am Nambozo Esther, a 22 year old Mugisu residing in Namakwekwe and a student at Living Stone International University.

I finished my A Levels in 2022 by the grace of God, but I lacked the finances needed to support my education further. Thankfully I got the opportunity to study at LIU through a scholarship with 3H.

For the past two years I have been pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology at LIU. As part of my second year, I was tasked to do a 10 week internship. I organised a placement in Mbale with Bugisu Co-operative Union (BCU) in their IT department.

BCU is a company owned by coffee farmers around the slopes of Mt. Elgon who are organised into primary societies. Each primary society keeps a register of its fully paid-up members who elect a committee, which manages the society's affairs.

BCU is situated on Pallisa Road in Mbale and their main activities involve the growing, buying and processing of coffee. Their aim is to produce high quality coffee for the socio-economic development of Bugisu and Uganda at large. They have an ultra modern processing plant, fitted with colour sorter machines and a gravity table. The mill can produce 40 tons of coffee in just 8 hours.

They also roast, grind and pack coffee powder under the name 'Elgon Pride' for the local markets.

During my 10 week internship I handled a number of activities such as networking, computer repair, maintenance and other IT related jobs.

I also had the opportunity to visit other departments including sales, processing and packaging.

We also spent time in the coffee shop talking with colleagues and had the chance to learn how to make coffee using the coffee machine.

I had a great time at BCU, I learnt a lot, made friends and connections with those at the company.

Thank you for supporting my education, without the financial help from 3H I don't know where I would be right now. This scholarship has greatly influenced my life and given me a chance to pursue a career in IT.
