Three of our sponsored students have been on their internship placements this summer.  On the right is Sarah who worked at an IT company in Soroti. Their accounts of the placements are available on the website: https://www.3huganda.org/liu-student-internships

The five students all achieved excellent results in their year end exams.   We have one student, Everline, graduating and will take on a new sponsored student, Joyce, in August. She is pictured on the left.  Joyce is the second eldest of ten children – her father is a pastor and subsistence farmer. Joyce interviewed at LIU in 2024 but couldn’t afford to join the course so has been working in a flower farm, harvesting and packing.  She is looking forward to training as a teacher.

From our most senior learners to the youngest!  Following up on the phonics course we ran for the teachers in May we have invited a trainer from Read for Life to visit Jackie School to assess how well the teaching of phonics is progressing and give the teachers feedback. The children were enthusiastically participating in phonics songs and games while he observed a lesson with each class.  The trainer was particularly impressed by the learning in our two nursery classes – especially as each has around 75 pupils!  ( It’s more usual in Uganda to have around 50 pupils) He applauded the efforts of the teachers in such a challenging setting. In due course we hope to further our teachers’ training further with more support from Read for Life.
