Our indispensable local contact in Kyemula, Milton, celebrated his birthday with a meal for family and his church congregation. He is pictured above with his mother whilst below two of his sons, Willy and Junior, together with his sister, Dauphine, serve sodas to the community. Milton has been part of 3H for over ten years and we really couldn’t have developed the charity without his steadfast and reliable commitment.

It was heartening to receive this photo from Milton showing how ripe and full the maize cobs are this year, he said, ‘The yield of maize this year is doing very well, majorly to our community whom we have been empowering with the farming equipment. They have developed the sense of independence and I strongly want to tell you that there will be a surplus of Maize in plenty that they will sell to the school.’ The fact that we can buy locally grown crops, paying the farmers direct saves us money, puts cash into the local economy and enables the famers to continue to improve their farming by buying better seeds, pesticides etc rather than relying on donations from us.  Once the harvest is completed later this month the ground will be prepared for the second crop, which for most people will be beans.

Amina Aromba has been the senior cook  at Jackie School as long as we have been involved.  Very sadly Milton has advised us that Amina died unexpectedly on Wednesday 17th July following a two week illness.  Amina was a widow with six children, three girls who attend Jackie School, two older boys, one of whom has mental health problems and a younger boy who has not yet started nursery. Amina had supported her family entirely through her wages from Jackie School.  Diana said ‘This is devastating. She was such a nice lady. Always taking care of us whenever we were there. She was full of life when we were there for the health clinic just a few weeks ago’ 3H has made a donation to help cover the costs of the burial and to support the family in the short term until plans can be made.  Milton held a service in the Church for the children and local community.  Our thoughts are with them, and we will wait to hear how we can best support Amina’s children in the future.
